Journey Arizona

Wow - what a week in Arizona! It all started with my arrival at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in the evening of Saturday the 21st of October. My brother Luke and his Wife Marnie and daughter Sierra were there to greet me with three big hugs. Then we went on to Prescott around 11pm Arizona time (2 my time.) We all went to bed right away, as Luke had warned me that we would be doing mountain bike trails at 6 the following morning. It turned out to be a 35 degree morning in Prescott and about 14 miles of intense trails with Luke and two of his mountain biker friends... I brought up the rear but loved every intense minute of winding paths, steep hills, and slamming through large rocks constantly. Sunday was a good day but it was only the beginning...

Monday: 6am racquetball with Luke and the advanced racquet ballers. This is where I first met Perry and Sandy Massie. Perry is the CEO and son of the co-founder of the Outdoor Channel and Sandy is the best racquetball player that Prescott has to offer, not to mention a bagpiper too! Later on that day I got to teach Marnie & Sierra some tennis, as well as play some with the best the club had to offer.

Tuesday: This was a rainy day, yet Marnie insisted that we climb Thumb Butte. She challenged me to climb it twice in the time that she climbed it once. I did do it twice, but she beat me at the challenge. More tennis that day with one of the club pros, Sterling.

Wednesday: 6am racquetball again... getting better this time around. I got a game off Luke, which I had to brag a little about. Got a good workout in too, then played some tennis later on that afternoon. Sierra and I were always doing our best to get a rise out of each other throughout the time I was there. She's the best niece I could ever ask for. You'd know exactly what I mean if you got to meet her. She's 7 going on genius and hilarious at that. Tonight Luke & Marnie had Perry and Sandy Massie over. Sandy brought her pipes and we had a blast playing on the golf course by Luke's house for a small crowd. She also brought a set of smallpipes, which I totally enjoyed playing. Sandy and I had a lot in common and just totally hit it off that night. Perry, being President of the Outdoor Channel, has done just about everything you can imagine that has to do with outdoor adventure and he was quite an awesome person to get to know as well. It was a great night.

Thursday: Woke up a little sick today... Dry throat in the morning that mellowed out throughout the day. Still played some tennis and had a blast with the LMS family. Another small party went on tonight - Let me tell you, the LMS home is a happening place! Always friends coming by, people coming and going, just living life to the fullest all the time!

Friday: 6am racquetball! Got even better today - played for around 3 hours, then played some tennis and worked out. Sierra had today off, so we got to play with each other for a while. For my last night we went out to Brian's Irish Pub where Luke and I scheduled a gig the day before. That was a blast and the owner invited me to come back and play any time I wanted.

Saturday: Time to go - traveled all day. Got back to Charlotte around 11:30pm, went straight to a friend's Birthday Party and played the pipes at Wild Wing Cafe. Here's the video for your enjoyment, taken by one of Jessica, the birthday girl's friends.

Signing off for now.

Tomorrow is a big day - fixing the brakes on the van, renting a trailer from U-Haul, and taking all my junk to Ohio. Be back Tuesday for the big Going Away Party.

Goodnight,

Nate

Got the Van!

Yes, that is correct. We just spent all of this past weekend driving ultimately to pick up our conversion van we purchased on eBay Motors. So the van was located in Mishawaka, Indiana way up in never-never land, a 12 hour drive from Charlotte. So we decided to stop in Groveport, Ohio - my hometown - along the way to see my Mom, brother, and his wife and spend the night there before driving the rest of the way to Mishawaka. It was a 3-day adventure that went very smoothly. Oh yeah, and I made it back directly to the tennis club to teach a clinic exactly 15 minutes before it started... in the van without even going home first. I guess you could say I'm the king of cutting it close.

The above picture was taken by Danny of the van, which I was about to drive through the one of the Virginia Mountain Tunnels on I-77 Southbound.

Signing off for now.
